Private Sector & Development #31 - Scaling up the development impact of agro-industry
Published on

This issue of Private Sector & Development aims to demonstrate that the agro-industry, even if it sometimes brings up “negative externalities affecting the environment and small producers”, can be a major driver for development.
In a context of population growth, the agro-industrial sector in developing countries must contribute to food security and access to employment. However, this contribution depends on the sector’s ability to provide decent working conditions, ensure a fair distribution of value, promote gender equality, respect community rights, and avoid generating negative environmental impacts. In this issue, we aim to highlight field experiences, analyses of key challenges, and best practices to achieve these goals.
