UBCI becomes the first Tunisian bank to join Proparco's Trade Finance program
Published on

Proparco reinforces its commitment to international trade in North Africa by integrating Union Bancaire pour le Commerce et l'Industrie (UBCI) into its Trade Finance program as an issuing bank.
UBCI is broadening its offering for customers and strengthening its counterparty lines with international correspondent banks, thereby supporting the economic growth of Tunisian operators.
On May 12, 2025 in Tunis, Proparco and UBCI signed an agreement for a €30 million trade finance guarantee line. The signing ceremony, organized in the presence of the French Ambassador to Tunisia, Anne Guéguen, strengthens a long-standing partnership between the two institutions.
This operation will contribute to securing international transactions and trade for Tunisian companies, thereby encouraging the creation of added value and supporting the country's economic growth.
In a context of constrained financing, UBCI occupies a key position in Tunisia in the field of trade finance. Its integration into the Proparco network will strengthen its capacity to support large companies, SMEs and small and medium-sized businesses in Tunisia, by offering them the tools they need to secure their international operations, particularly in strategic sectors such as agri-food, industry and distribution.
“By joining Proparco's Trade Finance program, UBCI is reaffirming its commitment to supporting the economy and the internationalization of Tunisian companies. This strategic partnership will enable us to better support our customers in their trade finance needs, and thus strengthen our role as a key player in sustainable economic development in Tunisia,” added Mohamed Koubaa, Chief Executive Officer of UBCI.
“Proparco is delighted to extend its long-standing partnership with UBCI in Tunisia, the first bank in the country to join Proparco's trade finance program. It will benefit local companies, which will be able to import goods essential to the creation of added value, in order to better meet the needs of the local economic fabric and its SMEs” added Frédérique Masi, Regional Director for North Africa at Proparco.
