In Mexico, EDILAR develops educational tools and trains teachers, with support from Proparco

In late 2024, Proparco renewed its commitment to EDILAR, a company that provides educational content and tools for nursery, primary and secondary school teachers in Mexico, mainly in the public education sector. Following the repayment of an initial loan in 2023, Proparco granted a new €11 million credit line denominated in local currency a few months ago. Focus on this high-impact project with a player committed to quality education.

EDILAR is a family-owned company that provides educational tools, such as its flagship digital platform ‘Red Magisterial’, and delivers training, mainly to teachers in the public education system in Mexico. In 30 years of operation, thanks to the quality of the content it develops, its agility in a sector that is constantly evolving in the digital age, and the partnerships it has forged with key institutional players, the company has established itself as a leading player in the publishing and education sectors.

More recently, EDILAR has strengthened its social impact by launching ‘Red Potencia’ in 2022, in partnership with Conafe (Consejo Nacional de Fomento Educativo), an offshoot of the Mexican Ministry of Education. This new product supports educational staff in poor and remote areas and promotes the development of indigenous education. This programme, which won a UN award in 2023, guarantees internet access and EDILAR's services to 64,000 teachers in marginalized areas, 80% of whom are women, enabling 580,000 primary school pupils to benefit from better quality education.

Following the repayment of an initial credit line in 2023, Proparco granted EDILAR a second long-term loan in local currency for an amount equivalent to €11 million. By targeting public sector teachers, this new financing will help improve the quality of education for 1.5 million students, particularly among the most disadvantaged populations in both urban and rural areas.

‘It is important to bear in mind that for every teacher who has been able to improve their teaching of writing or mathematics thanks to the educational materials provided by EDILAR, 30 students benefit from better teaching, both in terms of content and form. By financing EDILAR, Proparco is supporting a committed player with a strong social impact and promoting better quality education in Mexico,’ explains Manuel Léon, Proparco's Regional Director for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

This project has been awarded the 2X Challenge label because it demonstrates an active commitment to gender equality, with women representing 68% of EDILAR's clients, 40% of its senior management and more than half of its employees.
